Economic Benefits
By establishing a new cancer treatment research center in the GCC region, the entire society will reap the benefits of investments into greater education. According to the research of economist Enrico Moretti (Professor, University of California, Berkeley), the return on investments in higher education can be felt by the entire society, as he estimates a 1% increase in the number of college graduates increases wages for high school drop-outs by 1.9%, for high school graduates by 1.6%, and for college graduates by 0.4%. Over time, these wage increases have powerful multiplier effects within the society.
As the GCC is currently experiencing increasing unemployment rates for nationals in the region, job creation is a very essential part of reviving the local economy. This project has the promise of creating well over one thousand new sustainable jobs in the region from the treatment facilities, research center, and hotel that are planned.
Not only would the proton therapy center be a great academic exercise in the pursuit of breakthrough science, technology, and healthcare, but it would also be a highly profitable endeavor in which part of the revenues would be used to give back to the community, encouraging further development of opportunities for success in greater society.
